Helping Spread the Magic of the Season with Toys for Tots
The original Nintendo. A coveted Lego castle. That must-have movie soundtrack. These are just a few of the gifts that made our holidays even more magical when we were kids.
To help spread the joy of the season this December, Orso is making a charitable donation to Toys for Tots, an annual toy drive run by the U.S. Marine Corps. Founded in 1947, Toys for Tots is a top-rated non-profit with 97% of funds going directly to running the program that collects and distributes new toys to economically disadvantaged children across the country.
Holiday toy memories from a few of our team members
I think that’d have to be the original Nintendo. My sisters and I got it for Xmas in 1987, and we had so much fun playing Duck Hunt, Super Mario Brothers, Pinball, Donkey Kong, etc. Such good times.

When I was 5 or 6, I remember opening an amazing Lego castle set, complete with a trap door and glow-in-the-dark ghost. I also remember being mesmerized by my older sister’s brand new Lite Brite. After the thrill of Christmas morning began to wear off, I was able to sneak in some time with the Lite Brite. While I have no recollection of what design I used those magical, semi-translucent pegs to create, I do recall the awe I felt when I found out you can quickly plug-and-unplug the device to create an amazing strobe-light show. I also distinctly recall learning what it felt like to be electrocuted for the first time. I’m fairly certain I haven’t touched a Lite Brite since that day.

One year I came downstairs on Christmas morning to an unwrapped, shiny bright red bike next to the tree. Another year, I got the “Now and Then” soundtrack on both tape and CD from different relatives. I returned the CD because I didn’t trust the technology. 😂

I don’t recall a specific toy, but I do remember that every year I would make my list for Santa out of the Sears and Toys “R” Us catalogs. I would cut, glue, and it was a whole project!

In addition to providing gifts for the holidays, Toys for Tots also offers a year-round literacy program that provides books to children from low-income families and the libraries, schools, and existing programs that serve them. And they also help foster children adjust to their new homes by providing backpacks full of school supplies and other necessities.
